On the morning of October 26, 2011, Tsinghua SEM 2011 Advisory Board Meeting was held at the main building of Tsinghua University. It is the 12^thannual meeting since the founding of the Board. Altogether 29 Advisory Board members attended this year’s meeting.

On behalf of SEM Founding Dean Zhu Rongji, SEM Dean QIAN Yingyi presented to each participating Chinese Board member a set of ZHU Rongji-autographed bookZHU Rongji Speech Recordsin Chinese version. Meanwhile, foreign Board members were also given the bookZHU Rongji in Press Conferencein English version.

John L.Thornton, Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, chaired the 2011 Board meeting. He first expressed his greetings and welcome to eight new members joined the Board this year, namely, Daniel F. Akerson, Chairman and CEO, General Motors; Henri de Castries, Chairman and President, AXA; CHANG Zhenming, Chairman, CITIC Group; Henry R. Kravis, Chairman and CEO, KKR; Richard C. Levin, President, Yale University; Robin Li, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Baidu Inc.; Nitin Nohria, Dean, Harvard Business School; and Indra K. Nooyi, Chairman and CEO, PepsiCo. Later on, a video clip of Zhu Rongji’s return visit to SEM on April 22 was played for the audience.

Following Thornton’s opening remarks, Tsinghua SEM Dean QIAN Yingyi reported to the Board on the development of SEM in the past year. The Advisory Board members highly praised SEM’s achievements and discussed on the School’s future development. During the meeting, a special session was also contributed in memory of Houghton Freeman, a late member of SEM Advisory Board, and President and Co-Founder of Freeman Foundation. His contributions and friendship to Tsinghua SEM will always be remembered and valued.

The Advisory Board of Tsinghua SEM was founded in October 2000. Its members include chief-executives of world leading corporations, deans of renowned business schools, and Chinese government officials and economic policy-makers. ZHU Rongji, Founding Dean of SEM, serves as the Honorary Chairman of the Advisory Board. The current Chairman of the Board is John L. Thornton, Guest Professor and Director, Global Leadership Program at Tsinghua SEM, and Chairman of Board of Trustees at Brookings Institution.
