On the 22nd of October, the 2015 Tsinghua Management Global Forum will be held during the Advisory Board Meeting of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM). Advisory Board member Elon Musk, Co-founder, CEO and Product Architect of Tesla Motors, CEO and CTO of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), and Chairman of SolarCity will engage in a dialogue with Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM.
Elon Musk to hold dialogue with Dean Qian at the 2015 Tsinghua Management Global Forum
Elon Musk is a new member to the Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board. He is currently the CEO and Product Architect of Tesla Motors, CEO and CTO of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). Musk is also Chairman of SolarCity, which he helped create. Musk’s three companies - Tesla, SolarCity and SpaceX occupied 1st, 9th and 22nd places respectively on the list of “50 Smartest Companies 2015” by the MIT Technology Review. Musk was also named Fortune’s “Businessperson of the Year” in 2013 for his leadership and innovation breakthroughs across multiple fields.
Elon Musk to hold dialogue with Dean Qian at the 2015 Tsinghua Management Global Forum
At Tesla, Musk has overseen product development and design from the beginning, including the all-electric Tesla Roadster, Model S and Model X. Transitioning to a sustainable energy economy, in which electric vehicles play a pivotal role, has been one of his central interests for almost two decades. At SpaceX, Musk is the chief designer, overseeing development of rockets and spacecraft for missions to Earth orbit and ultimately to other planets. In 2012, SpaceX became the first commercial company to dock with the International Space Station and return cargo to Earth with the Dragon. In addition, Musk is the non-executive chairman and principal shareholder of SolarCity. SolarCity is now the leading provider of solar power systems in the United States. Prior to SpaceX, Musk co-founded PayPal, the world's leading Internet payment system, and served as the company's Chairman and CEO. Before PayPal, Mr. Musk co-founded Zip2, a provider of Internet software to the media industry.
In addition to Dean QIAN, Tsinghua professors ZHU Bangfen, professor of physics and academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, OUYANG Minggao, professor of automotive engineering, and ZENG Rong, professor and head of the Department of Electrical Engineering will also join the dialogue. The forum will have a question and answer session when Musk will address questions from the audience.
The Tsinghua Management Global Forum was initiated in 2007 with the support of the Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board. The forum provides a platform to engage world’s business leaders and academic scholars with Tsinghua’s students, faculty, and alumni. The Forum featured Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, in 2014, Indra K. Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, in 2013 and Stephen A. Schwarzman, Chairman, CEO and Co-founder of Blackstone, in 2012.
