On the morning of October 24, 2014, the 2014 Advisory Board Meeting of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) was held, with 38 Board members participating in the meeting and related activities. Since the Advisory Board’s inception in 2000, this was the 15th time that the annual meeting has been convened. The meeting was chaired by Mr. David M. Rubenstein, Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group.

The 2014 Advisory Board Meeting was chaired by Mr. David M. Rubenstein, Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group
The meeting began with the chairman remarks by Rubenstein. He introduced the new members of the Board and thanked the departing members for their contributions to the School.
Dean QIAN Yingyi provided School Updates to the Advisory Board
Dean QIAN Yingyi provided School Updates to the Board on six areas: the School’s 30th anniversary, Board members activities at the School, codes of conduct and community values, undergraduate admissions reform, new buildings progress and Chair professorship fund raising. Board members enthusiastically affirmed the School’s achievements for the past year and promised to provide more support to the School.
This year, the main topic of the meeting was the McKinsey report on "Tsinghua SEM 2025 Strategy”. The report discusses the issues of current strengths and future challenges of the School, trends transforming economics and management education, a mission of historic significance, core DNA of Tsinghua SEM and a three-level framework for strategy development to guide the School’s development.
The Advisory Board held an Executive Session after the tea break.

Initiated by ZHU Rongji, the Founding Dean of Tsinghua SEM, the Advisory Board of Tsinghua SEM was officially established in October 2000. Board members include chairmen, presidents or CEOs of multinational corporations with significant global influence, deans from top business schools, distinguished Chinese entrepreneurs, and Chinese government officials for the economic and financial affairs. Tsinghua SEM’s Founding Dean ZHU Rongji is the Honorary Chairman. Henry M. Paulson, Jr., Former Chairman and CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc, was the first Chairman of the Advisory Board (2000 - 2003). Lord Browne of Madingley, Former Group Chief Executive of BP PLC, was the second Chairman (2003 - 2008). H. Lee Scott, Jr., Former President and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., was the third Chairman (2008-2010). John L. Thornton, Co-Chairman, Board of Trustees, Brookings Institution and Chairman of Barrick Gold Corporation, was the fourth Chairman (2010 - 2013). David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group, is the current Chairman.
