Abstract
The vast majority of the research efforts in resource-constrained project scheduling assume complete information about the scheduling problem to be solved and a static deterministic environment within which the pre-computed baseline schedule will be executed. However, in thereal world, project activities are subject to considerable uncertainty, which generally leads to numerous schedule disruptions. This uncertainty stems from a number ofpossible sources: activities may take more or less time than originally estimated, resources may become unavailable, material may arrive behind schedule, workers may be absent, new activities may have to be inserted in the project network, etc.
In this presentation we focus on schedule disruptions that may be caused by uncertainty in the duration of the project activities and/or in the availability of the renewable resources. We discuss proactive/reactive project scheduling procedures for generating proactive baseline schedules under resource constraints that are sufficiently protected against anticipated time and resource disruptions and the deployment of reactive scheduling procedures during project execution to revise or re-optimize the baseline schedule when necessary.
